Airi (moeru-ai/airi) is an open-source, self-hosted AI virtual companion ("cyber waifu," inspired by Neuro-sama) with VRM and Live2D avatars, real-time voice chat, and even game-playing (Minecraft, Factorio). It runs in the browser (Stage Web at airi.moeru.ai), as a desktop app for Windows/macOS/Linux (Stage Tamagotchi), and as a mobile PWA, plus self-hosted/containerized deployment. Users bring their own keys: the Settings panel (Providers → LLM Providers) exposes apiKey and baseURL fields, and the xsAI adapter supports 30-40+ LLM providers including OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, DeepSeek, xAI Grok, Groq, Mistral, OpenRouter, Azure OpenAI, Together.ai, Fireworks.ai, Ollama, and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Voice/TTS is also multi-provider (ElevenLabs, Azure/Microsoft Speech, OpenAI-compatible TTS, Alibaba Cloud Model Studio, local Kokoro TTS). MIT licensed and free.

How your API key is handled

Your API key is stored locally on your device. Requests are sent directly to the AI provider. Because it can be self-hosted, your key never has to touch a third-party backend.

Setup

Open settings, paste your provider API key, choose a model, and start — the key stays on your device.
